Saga Minerals
Specializing in Fine Mineral Specimens of the Midwest & More
My name is Jared T. Freiburg and together with my wife Maggie, we started Saga Minerals, Inc. in 2010. As many other mineral dealers and collectors, my interest and collecting of rocks and minerals started young prowling the igneous outcrops for minerals near my childhood home in Connecticut. Later moving to the Midwest, I attended the University of Illinois receiving my B.S and M.S in geology. I entered the workforce as a field geologist working for a large industrial minerals mining company and travelling all over North America completing intense exploration drill plans. After a grueling but exciting couple years on the road, I settled down and accepted a position with the Illinois State Geological Survey at the University of Illinois.
As a sedimentary geologist I specialize in Mississippi Valley-Type (MVT) deposits, diagenesis, and particularly enjoy dolomitization. I utilize petrographic techniques such as fluid inclusion thermometry, cathodoluminescence, scanning electron microscopy, and of course the essential polarizing microscope. I love a good thin section! I am also a trained miner and specialize in careful and safe mineral extraction.
I love minerals and hold a special place in my heart for Midwest and MVT related minerals. However, I will never limit myself and believe that diversity (especially in collecting minerals) is a true fruit of life scenario. We strive to bring excellent minerals to your collection and look forward to working with you to do just that.
